Air fryer frozen corn dogs turn out crispy just like the corn dogs at the state fair! They only take 6 minutes to cook with no prep which makes this an easy and quick meal to put together.

A corn dog is a popular nostalgic American fast food favorite that consists of a hot dog that has been skewered on a stick, dipped in a cornmeal-based batter, and then deep-fried until it becomes golden brown and crispy.

The result is a savory and slightly sweet outer layer of cornbread coating that encases the juicy and flavorful hot dog within. That’s where the name comes from; combining cornbread with hot dogs.

Corn dogs are often served on the stick they were cooked on, making them a convenient treat to eat on the go.

Hence why they’re so popular at state fairs, carnivals, amusement parks, and sporting events, as well as in various fast food outlets and restaurants across the United States.

Additionally, some variations of corn dogs might include different types of sausages or even vegetarian alternatives. They can be served with various condiments like ketchup, mustard, or cheese sauce.

These days you can also find a breakfast version with sausage on the inside and pancake batter coating on the outside.

    Korean Vs American Corn Dogs

Have you heard of a Korean corn dog? It’s a modern twist on the American corn dog and has the same concept.

It’s made with either sausage, hot dog, or mozzarella stick on a skewer.

The batter is made from crunchier coatings like panko, crushed chips, french fries, or spicy rice cake (Tteokbokki) batter. It’s then coated in sugar.

After that, there’s an endless range of toppings like ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, or even a sweet sauce.

    Sauces

How do you like your corn dog?

Do you eat it plain? Many prefer to dip their corn dog in these sauces:

    • Ketchup: A classic choice, ketchup’s sweet and tangy flavor pairs well with the savory hot dog and crispy batter.
    • Mustard: Another classic condiment, mustard’s sharp and slightly spicy taste can provide a nice contrast to the richness of the corn dog.
    • Cheese Sauce: A rich and cheesy sauce can take the corn dog to a whole new level of deliciousness. Cheddar, nacho cheese, or a creamy cheese dip are popular options.
    • Honey Mustard: A blend of sweetness from honey and tanginess from mustard can create a balanced and flavorful dipping sauce.
    • Ranch Dressing: Creamy ranch dressing offers a cool and tangy element that complements the hot and crispy corn dog.
    • Spicy Mayo: Mixing mayonnaise with a touch of hot sauce or sriracha can result in a creamy, spicy sauce that adds a kick to your corn dog.
    • Sriracha Ketchup: Combining ketchup with sriracha sauce creates a spicy, zesty dip that enhances the overall taste of the corn dog.
