This is a juicy air fryer steak recipe cooked perfectly and quickly in an air fryer. The tender steak is cooked evenly through the middle and tastes delicious.
It’s perfect for date night, those cooking one steak for themselves, and anyone looking for new ways to use their air fryer.
I never thought of cooking steak in an air fryer until a friend said she had tried it and after trying it for the first time, I loved it! It’s my new favorite way to make the perfect steak.
It’s times like this when we’re snowed in and cooking on a grill isn’t an option so I’m looking for new ways to cook steak indoors.
If you think about it, an air fryer is like a convection oven that blows hot air around.
What kind of steak can you cook in an air fryer?
All kinds of juicy steak can be cooked in an air fryer. This recipe does not limit you to using sirloin.
You can easily cook:
- Ribeye
- Filet mignon (beef tenderloin)
- NY Strip Steak
- Flank steak
- Skirt steak
This particular recipe has the cook times for 1.5″ thick steaks. Obviously, the cook times may vary depending on the thickness of the steak. If you have thicker steaks, simply add more cook time and thinner steaks will need less time.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Sirloin Steak
- Sirloin Steaks
- Olive Oil
- Salt
- Black Pepper
How to Make Perfect Air Fryer Steak
Prepping
- Allow the steaks to reach room temperature for even cooking.
- Lightly drizzle each sirloin with olive oil. This gives the best results for browning the outside of the steak.
- Add any dry rub, fresh herbs, or compound butter you like on your steak, or leave it simple with salt and black pepper. Sometimes I drizzle my steaks with Worcestershire sauce to marinade.
- Place each steak in the air fryer basket. No preheating is necessary.
Air Fryer Steak Time
- Set the temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and set the timer for 7 minutes. After 7 minutes of cooking time, flip the steaks over and cook for 7 minutes more to achieve medium rare.
- Use an internal meat thermometer to check for doneness, or cut into the thickest part of the steak.
What temperature does steak need to be for medium-rare or medium?
Medium Rare Steak Internal Temperature: 120-125 Degrees
Medium Steak Internal Temperature: 130-135 Degrees
Once the steaks are done cooking, slice them against the grain in ¼″ thick slices.
I prefer mine medium-rare. The steaks cook fast in an air fryer, especially since there is no preheating needed!

- Sautéed Green Beans with Bacon and Mushrooms Tender green beans sauteed in garlic accompanied by the crunchy and smoky flavor of bacon and the meaty, earthy texture of mushrooms really enhances this side dish.
Storage
Store leftover steak in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
Reheating
Reheating steak in an air fryer can be a convenient and effective method, as it helps maintain a crispy exterior while reheating the interior. Here’s a simple guide on how to reheat steak using an air fryer:
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to a temperature between 350°F and 375°F (175°C to 190°C). The exact temperature may vary depending on your air fryer model.
- Prepare the Steak: Take the leftover steak out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for a short time.
- Slice or Leave Whole: Consider slicing the steak into smaller pieces if it’s a larger piece. This can help the steak reheat more evenly.
- Reheat: Cook the steak in the air fryer for 3-5 minutes, flipping the pieces halfway through the cooking time. Keep a close eye on the steak to prevent overcooking, as air fryers can reheat quickly.

Perfectly cooked in my Air Fryer.
Cooked a ribeye in my airfryer came out great
Cooking time is based on the thickness of the steak. How thick were your steaks for 7 minutes to be medium-rare?
Hi Ida,
I have the thickness of the steaks listed in the recipe card above. They should be 1 1/2″ thick for the cook time of 7 minutes per side.
Keep in mind, different air fryers can vary cook times as well. Let me know how it turns out for you!
