BBQ pork burger sliders with ground pork mixed with barbecue sauce, topped with sauteed onions, and melted mozzarella cheese served on sliders.

BBQ Pork Burger Sliders with a Pickle on the Side

These mini BBQ pork burger sliders are created very similar to my grandpa’s BBQ pork burgers, but cooked in the oven with delicious melted mozzarella cheese.

Below I will show you the ingredients needed and step-by-step how to make a roast pork sandwich recipe. Prepare for deliciousness!

Ingredients for BBQ Pork Burger Sliders

    • 12 Slider Buns
    • Ground Pork
    • BBQ Sauce
    • Shredded Mozzarella
    • Medium-Sized Onion
    • Olive Oil
    • Butter
    • Garlic Powder
    • Salt & Pepper

How to Make BBQ Pork Burger Sliders

    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Mix ground pork and BBQ sauce together. I find it easiest to mix in a stand mixer, but by hand works great too.

Yes, I use the stand mixer to mix ground pork ingredients together. But before you laugh, look at the benefits:

    1. The mixer allows it to blend evenly.
    2. I don’t have to get my hands dirty!
Ground Pork Mixing in the Stand Mixer
    • Press the ground pork mixture evenly into the bottom of a 13″ x 9″ baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes. The pork will shrink in size as it cooks.
Ground pork pressed into a 13
    • While it bakes, chop an onion and add a tablespoon of olive oil to a large pan over medium-high heat.
Sliced onions sautéing in a pan with butter, salt, and pepper
    • Once hot, add onions, season with salt and pepper, and saute for 7-8 minutes until they become translucent.
    • Remove the pork from the oven and cut the pork in half (or quarters) to transfer to a clean flat surface.
    • It can be tricky to move the pork as it can crumble easily. Use two large spatulas to transfer in pieces.
    • Drain grease and wipe the bottom of the pan clean.

    Building the Sliders

Buns sliced in the half and the bottom of the buns is placed in the baking dish
    • Slice sliders in half length-wise if not already done so.
    • Place the bottom of the sliders in the baking dish used to cook the ground pork and carefully place ground pork on top.
Ground Pork is now sitting on top of the bottom half of the buns
    • Did your pork crumble? That’s okay! Fill the sliders with the loose pieces and layer them the same way.
    • Add the sautéed onions.
Now the onions are placed on top of the ground pork
    • Then, add a good layer of shredded mozzarella. I love cheese!
Shredded mozzarella added on top of the onions, pork, and bottom buns
    • Place the top of the buns on top.
    • Melt 3 tablespoons butter with ¼ teaspoon garlic powder and brush over the tops of the buns.

    • Bake for 15-20 minutes in the oven, then remove and slice each individual slider.

Made these for lunch using brioche slider buns and sweet baby rays bbq sauce. Very filling. The sautéed onions are a must! Next time I think I’ll try a Philly style version. Thank you for this easy and fun recipe.

Made these last night, everyone loved them. I added goat cheese and arugula to mine, which made it even more creamy. Definitely a keeper.
