    Choosing a Champagne

    Is sparkling wine champagne?

All champagne is sparkling wine, but not all sparkling wine is champagne.

    – Wine Country

Champagne originates in Champagne, France, and only true champagne can come from there.

Just like other wines, champagne can have a range in dryness and sweetness. Brut is much dryer and demi-sec or doux means it is sweeter.

It does not matter if you use dry or sweet champagne in this cupcake recipe because there is enough sweetness from the sugar added to the cupcake itself. If you have a favorite champagne, use it!

The most common sparkling wines in the US are champagne, prosecco, and cava.

Prosecco is an Italian sparkling wine and Cava is a Spanish sparkling wine. Both of these are much more affordable compared to champagne.

Whether you use cheap or expensive champagne or another sparkling wine will not matter as much in a cupcake. I have even made them with prosecco before and they had a great flavor.

    How to Make Champagne Cupcakes

    • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a cupcake pan with 24 cupcake liners.
    • In a stand mixer with the paddle attachment or a large bowl with a hand mixer, cream sugar and butter together until fluffy.
    • Blend in eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, add the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Begin alternating as you add the dry ingredients and champagne to the batter.
    • Once blended, add pink food coloring or icing gel. Small amounts of red coloring will make them light pink as well.
    • Add cupcake batter to the liners, about â…” full, which is roughly 3 tablespoons.
    • Bake in the oven for 14-17 minutes. Check for doneness by lightly touching the tops of the cupcakes. If they spring back they are done.

How to Make Champagne Buttercream Frosting

    • As the cupcakes bake, blend butter in the mixing bowl. Slowly blend confectioners’ sugar into the butter.
    • Add vanilla extract and champagne and blend well. If too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk.
    • Top cupcakes with frosting after they have fully cooled.

What tip do you use for decorating champagne cupcakes?

I used Wilton’s 2D tip for these cupcakes, but you can also use 1M which is a slightly more open star, or 1A for a smoother round decoration.

    How to Decorate Champagne Cupcakes

To learn how to decorate cupcakes watch Cakes by Lynz’s piping tutorials on YouTube. They’re great for beginners. She shows how to frost the top like a cake decorator and has lots of neat tricks for making flowers.

I used Wilton’s pink pearls for the sprinkles and rose gold metallic cupcake liners.

Decorating Champagne Cupcakes for Valentine’s Day

This is a decorating idea for Valentine’s Day. Changing the cupcake liner and the choice of sprinkles can change the whole look of your cupcake.

    Valentine's Day Champagne Cupcakes

Champagne cupcakes are perfect for Valentine’s Day because not only are they pink, but champagne is typically used in celebration. In this case, a celebration of love!
